Cruise control

Sometimes life feels hard and in this blog I explain why and how you can hit cruise control and make your journey through life easier and far more pleasant.

Last time I shared with you the interesting analogy about the synergy between the journey called ‘life’ and a journey in a car.  You discovered how in a car depending on which gear you use to get you to your destination will influence how easy the journey is and how much fuel (or energy) you use.

You realised that whilst you can achieve results from the emotion of pride but that it is still a lower-level emotion meaning you are still driving in the lower gears and so the amount of fuel (energy) used is still quite high meaning it feels like hard work.

That is why so many accountants I work with are running out of energy when they approach me.

Let’s go back to the chart of emotions again:

The first emotion that is higher in energy is that of Courage, where you are stepping into the higher gears, using less fuel (energy). This means that you then have more energy to put into taking action and will potentially get to the destination or results quicker. For example, when you are in courage then you are willing to step forward, try things perhaps that others might not.  You step into the unknown and so have the chance to take those steps forward and get those results quicker.

Stepping up another gear is done by getting into Acceptance. By having the idea and then the courage to step forward to take action that perhaps others haven’t but from a sense of accepting that it might not work out like you think but you are ok with that. It can also be about simply accepting that you don’t much like the situation that you are in but you this is what is happening.

Remember I talked about resistance in my blog about the problem with thinking, well when you ‘resist’ the situation you are in – playing the blame game and feeling like a victim, or living in thoughts of ‘if only’ and what ‘should’ be -then you are using all your energy on this.

By accepting a situation (not condoning it, excusing it or saying it is positive when it isn’t) then you will have more energy available to put into taking action.

When you hit the point where you truly ‘don’t mind’ what the outcome of your actions may be then you are at Peace and hitting cruise control because you have all the energy that you will ever need to take the actions you want to.

One final point on the energy of emotions that is worth sharing here.

With the below the line energies there is a net loss of energy.  What I mean by that is that we use up emotional energy holding in all of the ‘bad’ energies such as sadness, fear and anger.

But the opposite is true of above the line energies, which all have a net gain of energy. When we are courageous and expand our comfort zone then we become more courageous by default.

When we have more energy then we have more potential to give more to others without running out of fuel ourselves.

For help to move up the gears to reach cruise control or for support to increase your teams energy levels , book a conversation with me and let’s explore how my coaching programmes could help you.

Since 2013 I have been coaching accountants throughout the UK, as an independent coach offering them a tailormade support service to increase the connection and cooperation in their teams and bring the balance and financial rewards that they are looking for. By working alongside them as part of their extended team I can support them to make sense of the things that are out of balance and offer them the support with all the aspects of running a practice that many accountants struggle with or feel overwhelmed by. By working cooperatively with the partners in the practice and with the team I can share my knowledge and expertise in understanding what really makes people tick and how to build an effective team.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
