This weekend I had the pleasure of spending three days with Sanjay Shah and his team of supporters.  It was without doubt the most challenging weekend that I have ever had, but one which taught me an awful lot.

During the weekend I was challenged to do things that I would have thought were impossible for me to do.  You see, I was put into situations that meant I had to face my fears and learn how to deal with the voices inside my head.

This taught me that I could hear the thoughts running through my head but I don’t need to believe them. I was given an opportunity to face my fears head on and overcome it.  As a group we were taken into a field barefooted (on very cold wet grass) to do a ‘firewalk’. If you have never done this before then this is what it looked like……

I can tell you now as I stood in front of the ‘fire’, which by now is glowing coals, all I could feel was the incredible heat on my legs.  Every logical thought was telling me that there was no way I could do it….but that was just it, they were only thoughts. In reality I knew it was possible, because others have and were doing it. But it took effort to allow those thoughts to fade into background noise and to find the right state of calm internally and the moment to walk. Imagine how I felt when I had walked over those coals and not one sign of burning on my feet…

So what can you learn from my experience?

How many times have the voices in your head told you that you cannot do something? I cannot make this sales call. Or I cannot discipline this team member just to name a couple.

When you think about doing something new, different or challenging are the voices in your head telling you positive things or negative things?  I bet they are negative!

Next time you are in that situation, simply listen to the comment and ask yourself…

“is that really true?” and “what evidence do I have that proves it is true?” .

Then ask yourself…

“what would I do if I was being courageous?” then go and do it!

If you need any help to get more courage to take action on the thing you want to do most, just email me ask.
